What is the Melty game launcher?

Melty is a Windows app for discovering, playing and creating mods and game mashups. The official entry is melty.gg. Its examples combine elements from games such as Skyrim and Minecraft, but each mashup has its own requirements. Start with a particular mashup you want to try, rather than assuming every pair of games will work together.

The app and currently available mashups are described as free. You still need legitimate copies of every game a mashup uses, along with any accounts those games require. Melty does not provide the underlying games. Costs or access requirements for a separate coding agent also belong to that product.

This guide covers the Melty mashup platform. It is separate from Melty Blood and from similarly named game sites. The official site currently advertises Windows; a clip playing in your browser is not a browser edition of the launcher.

Play an existing mashup first

For a first look, browse an existing mashup and read which games it needs. Check that those games are installed and that you can access the required accounts. Melty says pressing Play downloads the mashup, installs what it needs and starts it. That setup can include tools and changes to game files, so it is more involved than opening a video.

Fabled’s short tutorial shows the play-and-setup path. Use it to recognize the launcher and the kind of result being demonstrated. Its title says “ANY Games,” but that wording should not be read as a compatibility guarantee. The current mashup page is the place to check the combination you actually want.

Nisu has reviewed the official instructions and these public demonstrations; we have not installed Melty or tested a mashup locally. If your game version or setup differs from the video, follow the current requirements rather than copying every visible step blindly.

Creating uses a coding agent

Creating a mashup is a separate workflow. Melty’s instructions say to copy its creation instructions into a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex. The agent then works on the mashup and can publish through Melty’s tools. Simply pasting a prompt into an ordinary chat does not give that chat access to your installed games.

That distinction answers a concrete question in the linked r/aigamedev discussion: a reader reported that Claude could not access Melty or the game files after they pasted the instructions. Start by checking which application you are using and whether it has the intended local project access. Keep permissions limited to what the task needs, and read changes before approving publication.

Connor Davis demonstrates a Cuphead and Silksong project, with the creation section beginning around 3:57. Treat it as one creator’s example. His older description of upload checks differs from the current Melty terms; see the safety section below before relying on that part of the video.

Read the current safety claims carefully

The linked Reddit discussion asks whether Melty is legitimate or malware. Conflicting comments and a promotional demonstration cannot settle that question. We have not performed an independent security assessment and do not label the app either safe or malicious.

The terms checked on October 11 say every release and update is audited before publication, including its files and, for GitHub publications, source code. This is Melty’s current claim, not an independently verified result. It differs from the older file-name-and-type-only description in Connor Davis’s video notes.

The same terms describe downloads, game-folder changes and running setup programs on your PC. Read a mashup’s requirements, keep backups of saves you care about, and respect the underlying game’s modding and online-play rules. If protection software raises a warning, stop and investigate it; this guide does not recommend disabling protection to continue.

Invite friends only when the mashup supports it

Melty provides join links for multiplayer mashups. That qualification matters: an invite feature does not turn every single-player project into multiplayer. Check the selected mashup before planning a session, and have friends check their own required games too.

The current terms say anyone with a join link can join, while a public game can be discovered by anyone on Melty. Hosts can remove players. Choose the audience deliberately before sharing the link, especially if you intend to play only with friends.

Start small: pick a published combination whose requirements you meet, read its page, and decide whether to play or create. The Nisu games below are separate browser games with playful combinations of mechanics and characters. They do not run through Melty or share its mods.

Quick help

Why does Claude say it cannot access my game files?

A normal chat does not automatically have local file access. Melty’s creation instructions name coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex. Check that you are using the intended application with access to the relevant project; do not grant unrelated permissions.

Is Melty free if I do not own the games?

Melty says the app and current mashups are free, but you need your own legitimate copy of every game a mashup uses. It does not supply those games.

Has Nisu verified that Melty is safe?

No. We checked the official instructions, current terms and public demonstrations, without installing the app or performing a security audit. The current release-audit statement is Melty’s claim.
